Part of our new Northern California forest metal jewelry series, this stunning, rustic necklace features a 2.75" x 0.75" cast silver pendant, cast from a real, helical Western Swordfern fiddlehead with a unique hexagonal bail.
Polystichum munitum, the Western Swordfern, is an evergreen fern native to western North America, where it is one of the most abundant ferns. It occurs along the Pacific coast from southeastern Alaska to southern California, a beautiful symbol of the forests of the Pacific Coast. Fiddleheads are the furled fronds of a young fern. Left on the plant, each fiddlehead unrolls into a new frond.
The pendant is cast using a unique organic casting process, where the original plant part is burnt up to create a mold, in solid 925 Sterling Silver, a traditional alloy of 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper. The necklace comes with an 18" copper chain with clasp. Made with love in Northern California.
