Energetic cleansing using burning aromatic plants is a common sort of ritual throughout the world's traditional cultures. However, a recent resurgence in popularity has threatened some of the species used due to overharvesting, and as a result we have decided to begin offering our own alternatives using native plant species from here in Northern California.
Artemisia californica, also known as California sagebrush, is a species of western North American shrubs in the sunflower family. The shrub is native to western California and northwestern Baja California. It is endemic to the California chaparral and woodlands ecoregion, in coastal sage scrub, coastal strand, chaparral, and dry foothill communities. It is found from sea level to 2600 ft. (800m) in elevation. It grows aromatic, sweet smelling gray-green foliage during the winter rainy season, which has been gathered from our backyard garden, and dried in bundles with red organic hemp twine. Simply burn and extinguish as you would with any other smoke cleansing bundle.
