This fully 3D pendant is a a cuboctahedron, a polyhedron with 8 triangular faces and 6 square faces. Buckminster Fuller discovered the significance of this shape as the Vector Equilibrium. It is the only geometric form where all of the vectors are of equal length. This includes both from the center point out to the outer vertices, as well as the edges connecting all of the outer vertices. From an energetic perspective, the Vector Equilibrium represents the ultimate and perfect condition where the movement of energy comes to a state of absolute equilibrium, and therefore absolute stillness and nothingness. As Fuller states, because of this it is the zero-phase from which all other forms emerge.
This design started life as a 3D model, 3D printed with an advanced laser stereolithography process. This was cast using a standard investment casting procedur. The pieces are then finished by hand,
